The Mayor’s executive budget proposes to completely eliminate summer programs for young people in New York City – cuts that would be devastating for University Settlement’s neighborhoods. Programs eliminated would include summer day camps for all ages, programs at NYCHA Cornerstone Community Centers, Beacon Programs for middle schoolers hosted in schools, and the Summer Youth Employment Program. At University Settlement approximately 1/3 of our employees work on these programs, serving over 3,000 children and youth each summer.
Our teams are gathering perspectives from the young people and families we work with to shed light on how these cuts will negatively affect our communities.
