Long-Serving Board Member and Outgoing Co-Chair Alan Winters Remains on Board Executive Committee
New York, NY, June 11 2021 – University Settlement, the pioneering NYC social justice agency, has announced that Renée Eubanks will become Co-Chair of its Board of Directors, alongside Co-Chair Benjamin Schall, following the unanimous approval of the organization’s Board of Directors.
Eubanks, who has served on University Settlement’s Board for nearly a decade, will be the first Black woman to lead it.
Alan Winters, who has served as Co-Chair since 2016, will step down from that role, but will remain on the Board’s Executive Committee
“We are thrilled about the opportunities these transitions create, both for our organization and for the leaders whose advice and counsel we’re grateful to count on,” said Melissa Aase (Chief Executive Officer, University Settlement). “As the deeply engaged co-chair of our program committee, Renee has developed a nuanced understanding of the way we do our best work, and she’s been a terrific partner to me in helping set our strategic priorities. I’m looking forward to her leadership in this new role – and sincerely grateful to Alan Winters for his continued service to our mission.”
“I’m inspired every day by the communities University Settlement engages,” said Eubanks (Principal, The Eubanks Law Firm). “We are an essential, transformative part of the social fabric of New York City, and after a year or more of crisis we are poised to play a significant role in its recovery. I couldn’t be more excited to partner with Ben, Melissa, and leaders across the agency as we continue to deliver on our organization’s promise.”
“I’m looking forward to a close collaboration with Renée, just as I’ve enjoyed a terrific and strong partnership with Alan,” said Benjamin Schall (Co-Chair). “Thanks to Alan’s tireless leadership, University Settlement is well-positioned for our next chapter of leadership and growth as a provider of essential services in NYC. Renee’s sharp legal mind and strong strategic perspective will serve us well.”
“I’m grateful that a leader as impressive as Renée has stepped up to take on this work we’re all so passionate about,” said Alan Winters (Alan Winters Coaching). “University Settlement’s legacy of inspiring and engaged governance is in great hands.”
