Falls remain a pressing global health concern, with the World Health Organization (WHO) ranking them as the second leading cause of unintentional injury deaths, claiming an estimated 684,000 lives annually. Among those most affected are older adults aged 60 and above, who experience a staggering 37.3 million severe falls requiring medical attention each year. These incidents not only imperil older adults’ health and independence but also erode overall quality of life, often triggering a cycle of declining physical function, depression, helplessness, and isolation. However, it’s crucial to recognize that falls are not an inevitable consequence of aging – they can often be prevented.
In recognition of the 2023 National Falls Prevention Awareness Week (September 18th to 22nd) and the urgent need to bolster public safety by empowering older individuals to adopt strategies to prevent falls in their lives and gain a deeper understanding of their own personal health, University Settlement’s Houston Street Center and VNS Health Chinatown Neighborhood Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NNORC) cordially invite community members to participate in the 5th Annual Falls Prevention Awareness Day:
Date: Friday, September 22, 2023
Time: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Location: Houston Street Center – 273 Bowery, New York NY 10002
Due to limited space capacity, only 150 free tickets will be available for this highly anticipated event. Attendees are encouraged to secure their tickets in advance. Ticket distribution will commence on September 14th at 10 AM and will take place at Houston Street Center.
Please note that each person may receive up to two tickets, which will be distributed in-person only on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
