Early Childhood

Long-term goals, long-term learning for our children

Social development. Emotional development. Developing a love of learning.  To us, they’re all vital. Our early childhood education programs support working families, create safe and fun places where young learners grow, and ensure that every child is prepared for kindergarten and beyond. We care for and educate more than 600 children in our communities every year.

We begin partnering with families early in a child’s life, and often even before children are born.

We offer a wide range of public and private tuition options to suit the needs of all NYC families. Fees are determined by income eligibility. Early Head Start and Head Start services are free for income-eligible families, and our private tuition fees for our other programs are the most competitive in the neighborhood.

Families access our programs in a variety of contexts, including four early childhood centers for children ages 2-5 located in the Lower East Side, Greenwich Village, East New York, and Park Slope; evidence-based home visiting programs for children ages birth-4; and a family childcare network of licensed educators providing care for children in their own homes on the Lower East Side, in Washington Heights, and in Brooklyn.

We also engage expecting families and caregivers with parenting skills workshops, counseling, and network development.

All our programs are responsive to the needs of children and families. We are dedicated to teaching and caring for children with different learning approaches, including children with special needs. We integrate mental health screening and care for children and parents, knowing that this investment makes a big difference in young lives. Our staff reflects the diversity of our communities and speak a variety of languages, including English, Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

Across our early childhood programs we strive to partner with families to help build strong educational and social-emotional foundations, strengthening our community’s future.
