Mahiri Fainke is a young Malian/Senegalese-American artist, a West African traditional and diasporic dancer and musician from Philadelphia studying the art, history, and culture for the past 18 years. Also now using the public alternative Mahrïama-SpicyKhasso, a name given by a friend and teacher, signifying the name of their ethnic group the Khassonke and their youthful bright energy. As a keeper of tradition – djeli/griot – Mahriama works to bring the culture to our youth and pass it forward and keep their traditions alive. Also providing to the larger communities to instill joy and healing to people! Studying and preserving West African, Afro Cuban, and diasporic dance. Teaching community classes and conferences, working in schools, and grasping audiences on stages.
Mahriama has had the opportunity to have been featured in Vogue Magazine IG as well as perform across the country, assist, and have been trained by world renowned artist such as, Jeffrey Page, Mouminatou Camara, Youssouf Koumbassa, Djeneba Sacko, Fara Tolno, Mangue Sylla, Cachet Ivey, Gilset mora,etc…… (photo courtesy of the artist)
