HOUSING SERVICES

Combating homelessness by preventing evictions

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

New York City can be a punishingly expensive place to live: 22,000 New Yorkers are evicted every year, and nearly 62,000 are homeless each night. Sometimes it’s really true – the rent is too damn high!

University Settlement’s Project Home combats homelessness by advocating for safe and affordable housing for all New Yorkers, and by partnering with tenants who are at risk of losing their homes to prevent evictions – including by addressing leasing issues, pushing back against landlord harassment, advising people going through housing court proceedings, and supporting tenant organizing.

Understanding that housing instability is a problem with complex root causes, we also share knowledge with people in our communities as they make progress towards their financial goals, working to prevent housing crises from happening in the first place.

We approach every household’s situation holistically, sensitively connecting our neighbors with the resources that will best assist them, including financial literacy classes, debt management assistance, access to mental health resources, or connections to employment opportunities.

If you have a question or concern about your relationship with your landlord, please get in touch with US! Please fill out the form, and give us 48-72 hours to get back to you.
